KARACHI: A suspected robber was shot dead in an `encounter` in Korangi on Monday morning, according to police.

Four armed men entered ahouse in Sector-35-C of Korangi and held all inmates hostage at gunpoint before collecting cash and other valuables, the police said, adding that they received information through Madadgar-15 police helpline and rushed to the crime scene.However, the suspects opened fire on the law enforcers on seeing them, said Awami Colony SHO Khalid Abbasi. In retaliatory firing, one of the robbers was killed, he added.

His three accomplices managed to flee along with lootedRs50,000 cash and a wrist watch, added the officer. The body was shifted to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre where his identity could not be ascertained immediately.

The police claimed to have seized one pistol from his custody.
