A university is being established at the FDA City housing scheme, and Rs250 million had been allocated for a water supply line to the scheme.

Faisalabad Development Authority (FDA) Chairman Sheikh Ijaz Ahmed, also an MPA, said this while talking to businessmen on Wednesday at the FaisalabadChamber of Commerce and Industry (FCCI).

He said preparation of the master plan was the responsibility of FDA, which was imperative for development of the district on modern and scientific lines. He said all stakeholders would be consulted on the plan, as a private firm had been hired to conduct the study. Increase in population and migration from remote areas to the city were aggravating issues of Faisalabad and provision of modern facilities to a city of five million was a daunting task.

He also said that terms of reference devised to prepare the master plan could be changed following theFCCI members` recommendations.

Taking about FDA City, he said a water supply line was being provided with Rs250 million and soon the FDA administration would sign a contract with the Faisalabad Electric Supply Company for provision of electricity to the housing scheme. He said a university would also be set up there and land had been earmarked for a branch of the divisional public school. Construction of a shopping plaza was also in the pipeline.

Former president of FCCI, Javed Iqbal, suggested formation of a committee comprising chambers members to assist the FDA in preparation of the master plan.
