LARKANA: PPP MNA Ayaz Soomro who died on Tuesday at a hospital in New York, US, after prolonged illness was laid to rest near his parents’ graves amid moving scenes in Miskeen Shah graveyard in Shahdadkot on Thursday.

Earlier, the funeral prayers were held at Peoples Stadium in Larkana before the body was brought to Soomro’s hometown Shahdadkot.

Pakistan Peoples Party chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari, Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah, his cabinet members, former Sindh chief minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah, Sindh Assembly Speaker Agha Siraj Durrani, members of Sindh Assembly, Larkana Mayor Aslam Shaikh, PPP leaders, lawyers, party workers and general public participated in the last rites.

Tight security arrangements were made around the stadium. People were allowed entry through walkthrough gates and after thorough frisking.

Earlier, the body was shifted to Soomro’s Larkana residence after arriving from US. PPP had already announced three-day mourning in Larkana.—Correspondent
