Body of ex-minister`s niece reveals bullet injuries

Bureau Report 2014-04-23
PESHAWAR: The body of a former provincial minister`s teenaged niece, who died under mysterious circumstances a few days ago in Nowshera, was exhumed on Tuesday and her autopsy revealed that she had suffered a firearm injury.

The body was exhumed in the presence of senior civil judge-cumjudicial magistrate of NowsheraAbdul Jabbar, while Dr Aneela Zaib autopsied it.

The girl, Kainat, around 16, had died on April 10 and the family members claimed that she was electrocuted to death. Station house officer of the relevant Nowshera cantonment police station Sahibzada Behrawar told Dawn that police had registered an FIR of murder against Yousaf, the only son of former provincial minister Liaquat Shabab.

He said police had been investi-gating the case to know the real motive behind the murder as the family had claimed that she was killed over a property dispute.

The SHO said Liaquat Shabab had toldinvestigators thathe had a property dispute with his brother, Iqbal, which could have prompted the killing of the girl by his son.

He said police hadn`t made any arrest in the case.

The SHO said the girl`s father had given an application to the police for exhuming the body as he claimedthat she had not died of electrocution and instead, she was killed.

The body was exhumed at the Noor Gul Baba graveyard in Nowshera.

Another police official said apparently, the killing of the girl was planned by the family due to some reason other than the property dispute.

He said police had acted wisely as parents of the girl were her legal heirs and under the law, they were empowered to pardon the suspect.
