Lakki farmers turn to modern tools to harvest wheat crop

LAKKI MARWAT: The local farmers have turned to modern farming tools to harvest their wheat crop.

It is for the first time that the farmers with good landholdings are using reaper machinery for harvesting the crop.

However, in many rural areas still wheat crop is harvested by the labourers who work in fields under sizzling heat to cut crop with sickles, a short-handled farming tool locally called `gatri` Landowners, particularly those having vast tracts of land along the Lakki-Tajazal and Manjiwala link roads, have now started relying on modern technologies for crop harvest.

`The use of mechanical reaper run with the help of a tractoris benehcialas large amounts of crop can be cut in less time,` a local farmer said,addingthe reapers are hired onperhourcharges.

`The use of modern technology is helpful to get enhanced yield on time without facing any difficulty,` added the farmer.

P O L I C E P U B L I C LIAISON: District policeofficer Sye d Khalid Hamdani has issued fresh guidelines to subordinate officials and station house officers to improve liaison with general public to help curb crime and promote peace.

The guidelines were issued in compliance with the special instructions of provincial police chief Salahuddin Mehsud, said an of ficial on Saturday.

He said the move was aimed to convince people to cooperate with police to ensure maintenance of sustainable peace in the district.

The station house officers have been directed to improve relations with area elders and general public and seek their help to control crime, he maintained, adding the policemen had also been directed to be polite with citizens and win their hearts and minds as it would help eliminate unlawful activities.

The DPO has called upon the people to keep an eye on activities of suspects, drug traffickers, gamblers and anti-social elements, and report the same to local police so that prompt action could be taken, said the official quoting the district police chief.
