PESHAWAR: The business community in the University Road area here has expressed grave concern over the delay in completion of the sewerage lines, and warned of a shutter down strike if the Peshawar Development Authority (PDA) did not give a timeframe in this regard within five days.
`The service road has been closed for past about three months, troubling the motorists and pedestrians, but the contractor is not ready to complete the worl( within the stipulated period,` Saif-ur-Rahman Tanoli, a representative of the traders` community, told Dawn on Saturday. He asked for immediate restoration of water and gas supply to thearea which had been severed due to the digging to lay the sewerage line.
Mr Tanoli said the business activities in the area had come to standstill, saying the relevant officials were not ready to listen to the traders` complaints. He said the traders could no more afford paying wages to their workers.
`We have time and again asked the PDA officials to at least to remove the construction material from the road so the pedestrian could walk to the shops, but to no avail,` he lamented.
He pointed out that during rains the people were unable to wall( on the muddy service road, saying the district administration had banned putting construction material on roads but the order was being violated.
