Kohat city roads in bad shape

KOHAT: The social and business circles here have demanded necessary repair of the dilapidated city roads which have become a permanent source of nuisance for the motorists as well as pedestrians.
Tajir Action Committee president Haji Abid said that the city roads were last repaired under the previous provincial government, but since then no heed had been paid to the grave problem.
In case of rain the people have to face hardships, especially in the main bazaar, chicken market, timber market and on under-construction Bannu and Peshawar bypasses and in KDA town.
When asked about the matter, Engineer Hamraz of the Communication and WorksDepartment said that that due to unusual delay in payment of annual maintenance and repair funds by the provincial government the situation had aggravated.
Answering a question, he said that they had demanded Rs50 million, but last year the Knance department cut it to Rs40 million without any reason. He regretted thatsince thentheyhadnotreceived any funds.
Meanwhile, chairing a review meeting of district development advisory committee (DDAC), Kohat deputy commissioner Akmal Khan asked the relevant departments to complete worl( on the ongoing projects before the end of current Escal.
According to a handout issued here, the DC told the meeting that during the last three years, 225 schemes costing Rs275.45 million had been approved in PK-37, PK-38 and PK-39 in different sectors under the chief minister`s directives, priority projects, production bonus, oil and gas royalty, etc. He noted that ofthese, only 159 had been completed while 75 per cent physical work had been done on the remaining schemes.
DDAC chairman MPA Ziaullah Bangash also attended the meeting.
KILLED: A man was killed in the name of honour in Alizai here on Saturday.
SHO Ustarzai police station Afzal Awan said that a dispute concerning teasing of women was going on between the families of Ishtiaq All and Shahid Ali.
He said that when the two came face to face Shahid opened fire at Ishtiaq who died on the spot. Police have registered a murder case against him.
Meanwhile, a picnicker drowned while swimming in Tanda Lake.
Asad Khan, 22, had come to Kohat from Lahore to meet his relatives.
On Saturday, they planned a picnic party at the Tanda Dam where he drowned while swimming. His body was pulled out by the divers.
The Saddar police have registered the case.
