Iranian students march

TEHERAN: Iranian student demonstrators defying a Government ban, formed a milelong procession today [April 22] and started to march to the Majlis (Parliament) building [here]. The students, boys and girls from Teheran University, colleges and schools, marched along the main streets of the capital `to express sympathy with the apprentices and workers killed in the Khuzistan oil area and in Isfahan in the recent strike riots`. The Ministry of the Interior banned the demonstrationlastnight andpolicethreatened punishment for anyone disobeying the order.

The demonstrators formed up at the University early today carrying banners and large pictures of some of the 12 people killed during strike riots on April 12. Loudspeaker blared their demands: `Oil nationalisation` `British warships to leave Persian waters` `Lifting of martial law in the Khuzistan oil province`; `Freedom for political parties` (referring to the Government ban on the Communist Tudeh party); `punishment for the murderers of our comrades in south Iran`. Speakers also attacked the recent Anglo-American oil talks in Washington as `American interference in Iranian affairs`.
