LAHORE: A teenage boy suffered critical injuries after a kite string slit his throat in Manawan on Monday.
Class-X student Muhammad Danish, 14, of Manawan Pind, was on his way to school by a motorcycle when a kite string struck him. By the time the boy stopped the motorcycle, the string cut his throat leaving him bleed profusely.
Danish was said to be stable at Mayo Hospital.
Kite flying has been banned in Punjab for several years owing to the casualties its string causes. Any violation is punishable with imprisonment and fine, or both under the law.
However, youngsters resorted to kite flying in some areas of the city on Sunday. Though police have displayed posters and flexes inscribed with warning, violations were mostly witnessed in various localities at night.
FOUND DEAD: Two unidentified women were found dead in separate areas of the city on Monday.
A woman in her 30s, wrapped in a blanket, was found dead in a plot in Mahmood Booti area.
The locals alerted thepolice who collected forensic evidence and shifted the body to the morgue for autopsy.
Investigating Officer Mushtaq Ahmad said the woman was shot dead and later her body was thrown in the plot. He said they had sent woman`s fingerprints to Nadra for identification.
In another incident, a woman in her 60s was found dead in a plaza near Scheme Mor in Iqbal Town.The police shifted the body to morgue for autopsy and started investigation.
Investigating Officer Qalb-i-Abbas said initial investigation showed that the woman might have died of a cardiac arrest.
He said they were investigating to establish her identity.
ACCIDENT: A young man was killed in a road accident in Kahna on Monday.
The police said the man in his 20s was going on a motorcycle when a car hit him near DHA Shaheed Chowk. The man suffered critical injuries and was taken to the Lahore General Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.
The police shifted the body to morgue for autopsy and registered a case against the absconding car driver.
