LAHORE: A Punjab University student drowned in the swimming pool of the varsity on Tuesday.

Abubakar (25) was the sixth semester student of the Department of Sports Science, the police said.

When he took a deep dive into the pool, he drowned. The incident occurred in the presence of the life guards and students, a police official said. Police started investigation into the incident.

FIRE: A fire broke out at the chemical factory in Kahna area here on Tuesday.

According to police, the fire spread steadily due to inflammable material that was stocked in the store. The employees alerted the Rescue 1122 after seeing smoke emanating from the store. Rescuers extinguished the blaze after three-hour efforts.

The officials said no injury to any worker was reported as they left the factory shortly after the fire erupted. The cause of the fire, however, could not be ascertained, they said, adding that the premises were handed over to police for further investigation.-Staff Reporter
