WASHINGTON: The US State Department reiterated on Thursday that America`s involvement in the India-Pakistan conflict helped prevent a full-scale war in South Asia.
Responding to a question from an Indian journalist, State Department`s spokesperson Tammy Bruce said South Asia was `very close to a full scale war erupting` and added that `what`s very exciting and heartening is that America`s involvement and assistance made a difference in that stopping`.
Bruce acknowledged that the long-standing dispute between India and Pakistan remains unresolved, but noted that the potential for progress has re-emerged.
`And the good news is that unlike other regions there has been a commitment to ceasefire,` she added.
When the journalist brought up the alleged presence of terrorist outfits in Pakistan, Bruce cut him off, saying: `We know that there as been a generational concern about violence and terrorism` in that region.
