Allama Talib Jauhari buried amid tears

KARACHI: Amid tears, internationally famous and widely respected religious scholar, poet, philosopher and orator Allama Talib Jauhari was buried on the premises of his religious seminary in New Rizvia Society here on Monday.
Maulana Mustafa Wakeel, a student of Allama Jauhari, led the funeral prayer held at Amroha Ground in Ancholi Society after Zohar prayers.
Thousands of people belonging to various segments of society and sects attended the funeral prayers of the great scholar, who spent his whole life promoting religious and sectarian harmony.
A large number of dignitaries, including clerics of different sects, leaders of different political and religious parties, poets and scholars,attended the prayers.
The funeral prayer was also attended by the Muttahida Qaumi Movement`s Amir Khan, Dr Farooq Sattar, Allama Baqir Abbas Zaidi of the Majlis Wahdatul Muslimeen, Allama Razi Jafar Naqvi, Allama Ali Karar Naqvi, Allama Baqir Zaidi, Shabbar Raza, S.M. Nagi and many others.
The late allama, 81, had been suffering from multiple disorders and had been under treatment in the ICU of a private hospital for the last two weeks. He had had a heart bypass last year.
He left behind a wife, three sons and three daughters to mourn his death. Four of his six children, Husna Jauhari (daughter), Riaz Jauhari, Asad Jauhari and Amjad Jauhari are following in their father`s footsteps as scholars and orators.
Allama Jauhari was famous not only for his great oratory and scholarly status, but also for his philosophical stature, poetry and wisdom. He possessed prominence among the writers of Tafseer-i-Quran.
He wrote seven books on different Islamic topics and three poetic collections. His books included Ahsan-ul-Ahadith (exegesis of the Quranin two volumes), Hadith-i-Karbala, Aqlipat-iMoaasir (logic and philosophy), Alamat-i-Zahoor-iMehdi, Khulfa-i-Asna Ashr and Islami Maeeshat kay Rehnuma Usool.
Allama Jauhari`s poetic collections are titled Harf-i-Namu, Paase Afaag and Shaakh-i-Sada, which reflect his proficiency in the area of poetry.
He also showed his expertise in marsiya writing, one of the most difficult genres of Urdu poetry, and wrote two remarkable marsiya Wajood-iBari Taala and Hidayat.
Allama Jauhari also wrote gaseeda on a par with classical poets, showing the lof tiness of his thinking.
He was born in 1939 in Gorakhpur (India). He received early education from his father, Maulana Mustafa Jauhar, who also commanded wide respect for his religious standing in his time. In 1951 Maulana Mustafa Jauhar with his family migrated to Pakistan. To acquire higher education in the field of theology, Allama Jauhari left for Najaf, Iraq, where he spent more than a decade under the guidance of renowned Shia scholars such as Ayatollah Abul Qasim Khoei, Ayatollah Baqir al-Sadr and Ayatollah Abdul Hussain Amini, the writer of Al-Ghadeer.
After completion of his studies, in 1965 Allama Jauhari came back to Karachi, and joined Jamia Imamia as its principal.
Later, he also taught Islamic studies at the Government College Nazimabad.
In recognition of his services as a religious scholar, he received Sitara-i-Imtiaz from the government of Pakistan.
Condolences Prime Minister Imran Khan, Chief of Army Staff Gen Qamar Javed Bajwa, Punjab chief minister Usman Buzdar and governor Chaudhry Mohammad Sarwar, Sindh Governor Imran Ismail, various provincial ministers, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Mahmood Khan and others, in their separate messages, condoled Allama Talib Jauhari`s death with the bereaved family.
Allama Baqir Abbas Zaidi, MWM`s provincial general secretary, said that every Muslim was sad as the great Islamic scholar and orator had passed away.
This is a great national loss, he said, adding that Allama Jauhari was a great supporter of Muslim unity.
Firasat Rizvi, intellectual, poet and one of the allama`s close companions, said that the art of oration got dulled with the death of Allama Jauhari, who was a leading religious scholar of the country. He pointed out that his stature as a scholar was widely accepted. The late scholar had a command of Arabic, Persian and Urdu linguistics, he said, adding that Josh Malihabadi also admired Jauhari`s qasæda writing.
Prominent research scholar and poet Dr Hilal Naqvi said that the late allama had a great artistic and creative mind. This is usually difficult for one person to have a command in various areas of literature and knowledge, but Allama Jauhari showed his greatness not only in oration but also in theology, poetry and philosophy, he said.
Prof Dr Zafar Iqbal, patron-in-chief of Bazm-iAsatiza Urdu, and Dr Jawed Manzar of Maktaba-i-Aalameen also condoled Allama Jauhari`s death. They said the nation had lost a great scholar, poet and orator.
