Families to boycott police martyrs day event in protest

PESHAWAR: The families of martyred police personnel from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa`s Kohat, Bannu, and Mardan regions have announced a complete boycott of August 4 Martyrs` Day celebrations.

Speaking at a joint press conference at Peshawar Press Club on Tuesday, the relatives of police martyrs said that the provincial government was least bothered to compensate them in this hour of need.

Mohammad SalmanKhan on behalf of the families of martyred police personneltoldjournalists that they repeatedly approached the relevant police officials including the IGP, but despite giving assurances to resolve their problems they didn`t keep their words.

He further stated that despite assurances from the chief minister, Ali Amin Gandapur, no concrete action had been taken to provide them with their due rights.

He said that the protesting families would not participate in the August 4 event, rather they wouldhold a demonstration during the main ceremony in Peshawar, which the chief minister is scheduled to attend.

The martyrs families demanded of the government to provide jobs to the children of martyrs, and also give them onetime relaxation as earlier announced by the chief minister, as many of their children were now grown up, and some of them had become overage.

They said that despite promises not a single member of the victims` families had been recruited during 19982024.
