KARACHI: Eidul Azha will be celebrated across Pakistan on Sept 2 as the Zilhaj moon has not been sighted, Central Ruet-iHilal Committee chairman Mufti Muneebur Rehman announced on Tuesday.
`We have reached a consensus that the Zilhaj moon was not sighted,` he told the media at the Met Office after a meeting of the committee.
The first day of Zilhaj (1438 AH) will now fall on Aug 24 (tomorrow) and Eid on Sept 2 (Saturday) in Pakistan.
In Saudi Arabia, the month of Zilhaj will begin on Wednesday and the ninth day of the month known as the Day of Arafah, a key part of the Haj pilgrimage will commence in the evening of Aug 30 and end in the evening of Aug 31.
Eidul Azha in the kingdom will be celebrated on Sept 1.
