KARACHI: Five Masters scholarships were announced for the students of journalism at the Centre for Excellence in Journalism (CEJ), Institute of Business Administration (IBA) Karachi along with workshops for content creators, aimed at enhancing financial liter acy.
According to their Memorandum of Agreement, Bank Alfalah will fund scholarships for five Master of Science in Journalism (MSJ) students at IBA for the academic year 2024-25 and offer workshops to twelve content creators focused on financial literacy.
The initiative seeks to develop a new generation of journalists with expertise in financial reporting while empowering content creators to raise awareness about financial issues.
Dr Asma Hyder, Dean of the School of Economics and Social Sciences at IBA, highlighted the program`s importance, noting that the MSJ degree equips students with the necessary skills in reporting, investigation, fact-checking, and ethics. `We are proud of our faculty and renowned visiting journalists who help students produce accurate and engaging content supporting a vibrant, democratic society,` she said.
Taimoor Ahmed, acting head of CEJ said that the program would help aspiring journalists realise their potential and play a pivotal role in promoting financial literacy. The workshops for content creators will focus on equipping participants with the skills needed to create public awareness campaigns centred on responsible financial practices.
