SHIKARPUR: An armed group of tribesmen shot dead a man and kidnapped three other members of his family on Monday apparently in retaliation for the murder of their fellow tribesman earlier in the day in a village falling within the jurisdiction of the Kot Shahu police station of Shikarpur district.

The assailants, said to be members of the Nasurani Jatoi tribe, raided a house in the kutcha area of Kot Shahu and shot dead Irshad Ahmed Bullo.

They also kidnapped his three family members, Imdad Ali, Mohammad Sujawal and Sartaj Ahmed.

Area residents and police said that Imdad Ali had allegedly shot dead his daughter, Hooran Bhullo, along with a man, Mir Mohammad Nasurani Jatoi, on Monday morning apparently in the name of honour.

They said that a few hours later, the armed group carried out the attack on his house.

A strong contingent led by Khanpur DSP Bahaduruddin Keerio was sent to the affected area to stop further bloodshed and restore law and order.

Meanwhile, the bodies of all three deceased victims were taken to the Khanpur Civil Hospital for a post-mortem examination and later handed over to their respective heirs.

According to the police, the armed group had given their hostages under the protective custody of the Jatoi chieftain, Dr Ibrahim Jatoi.

No FIR of the two incidents was registered till late in the evening.
