TAXILA: Disposing of an application, a local court on Monday directed the city police officer (CPO) to trace whereabouts of a man who allegedly disappeared from police custody on July 6.
His family claims that the man died due to police torture.
While disposing of the application filed by Jehanzaib Khan, the brother of the missing man, seeking registration of a case against the police, sessions judge Ahmed Kamran asked the CPO to act against the policemen and file a compliance report with the court.
According to the application, Hameed Khan was picked up by police on July 6along with his friend, Awal Khan, who allegedly subjected them to torture. They also sought Rs500,000 for their release.
Awal Khan, however, succeeded in getting freedom after paying his share of the money but Hameed Khan allegedly succumbed to torture.
When the victim`s family contacted the police, they went into hiding along with the body.
SP Potohar Division Attique Tahir gave 12-hour deadline to police to produce the missing man.
When the police failed the brother of the missing man filed another petition. Correspondent
