GILGIT: One person was killed and two others received injuries in a rain-related incident on Tuesday as heavy rain and snowfall lashed Gilgit-Baltistan.
The rain and snowfall paralysed routine life in the region. Eighteen people including 10 employees of wildlife department and eight policemen remained stranded in Deosai Plains, following heavy snowfall in the area.
According to police, three persons were going to Chilas when their car met an accident near Lork village due to landslide.
Nimat Wali was killed while Karamat Azizullah received injuries in the accident.
The injured has been shifted to Abbattabad for their treatment.
The Babusar pass road was blocked due to heavy snowfall. Police said that many shepherds and their cattle were missing in the area. Supply of electricity to remote areas of the district was also suspended due to rain and snowfall.
Police said landslide could block Karakoram Highway. They said that search operation was underway to rescue the stranded employees of wildlife and police departments.
However, Skardu Deputy Commissioner Musa Raza said that it was difficult to find the stranded people in the torrential rain. He said that the stranded people had food and other necessities of life for many days.
`They will be safe. The area is remote and there is no communication facility,` the deputy commissioner said. However, he said that the search operation would succeed and they would reach the stranded people.
Meanwhile, army and police would launch a rescue operation in Doesai on Wednesday (Today). The operation would be led by Brig Ahsan Mahmood.
Source said that the stranded people would be rescued through army helicopters.
