Pakistan`s role in anti-terror war deserves more recognition, says governor

KARACHI: Sindh Governor Mohammed Zubair has said that no country has given more sacrifices than Pakistan did for peace in the world.
Our armed forces and civilians offered great sacrifices by facing unbearable situations and even laying down their lives for peace, he observed while addressing a peace conference held at Governor House here on Thursday to mark Universal Peace Day.
Consuls General of China and the United States at Karachi and other envoys from Britain, Oman and Switzerland, as well as MPA Mehtab Akbar Rashdi, retired Justice Majida Rizvi, former Sindh IGP Niaz Siddiqui, former federal minister Barrister Shahida Jameel, Nasreen Haq, ABAD chairman Mohsin Sheikhani and members of the civil society attended the conference.
The governor defended Pakistan`s decision of siding with the world community in the aftermath of the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan and attack on the World Trade Centre, and recalled the great hardships faced by Pakistanis in the following years.
Pakistan always remained on the forefront in the war against terrorism and its role wascommended by the world community, he said, and stressed the need for further recognition of the role so that the negative impression being created about Pakistan by hostile forces could be dispelled.
Governor Zubair said that the world community ought to review the travel advisory vis-a-vis Pakistan so that the country`s real picture could emerge before the world.
He said that the operation Zarb-i-Azb and Operation Raddul Fasaad were launched to consolidate peace in the region.
Until 2013, Karachi had remained under a serious law and order situation that compelled investors to shift their businesses and investment to other places or even stop them, said the governor, adding that in such a situation, the decisions to launch the military operation were taken. Four years on, complete peace had now returned to Karachi, he pointed out.
He said that the situation in Karachi for investment was conducive and foreign investors, besides domestic ones, were keen to set up industries and other establishments in the city.
He said that a perfect infrastructure was the basic requirement for investments, therefore special attention was paid on it in the Karachi Package. He said thatthe China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) would usher in prosperity and a new phase of massive development in the country.
Hindu community delegation Governor Zubair also received a delegation of the Hindu Community led by PML-N minority wing leader Sham Sunder Advani at Governor House on Thursday. He appreciated the role played by the minority community in nation building.
He observed that the minority community enjoyed full liberty to serve in any field of its choice as its members in large numbers had already been playing an important role in the education, health, trade and other sectors.
The governor also observed that due to communal harmony across the country, all minorities like Hindu, Christian and Sikh communities also enjoyed full freedom of practising their faith. Their places of worship in Sindh were fully protected as well, he told the delegation, and noted that there were many age-old temples in the province where people frequented in a peaceful atmosphere.
He assured the delegation of all possible measures to resolve the issues being faced by the Hindu community.
