TAXILA: Prime Minister Imran Khan has approved Rs60 million for paying stipends to about 200 students of the Comsats University, Attock campus.

Adviser to the Prime Minister on Climate Change Malik Amin Aslam said this while talking to mediapersons on Tuesday.

He said stipends of these students were suspended due to departmental bottlenecks. However, he said that on his request the prime minister resolved the issue and now the students would get their stipends under the Ehsas Programme.

Answering a question about the closure of Pir Mehr Ali Shah Arid Agriculture University, Attock Campus, Mr Aslam said the previous government had set up the campus in a two-room building of a local postgraduate college without approval and recognition of the Higher Education Commission (HEC).

He said now the issue had been taken up at an appropriate level and the students would get degrees and certificates approved by HEC.

The adviser said the authorities concerned were asked to speed up the construction work of the new campus as funds had been provided by the provincial government. He said construction of the sub-campus in Attock would be completed next year. He said proper certification for the degrees would be attained and then regular classes would be started in the new campus.

He said that interim arrangements had been made for the students already studying in Attock campus so that they were given approved degrees.

Answering another question, he said that irregularities made in purchase of land for the new campus would be investigated. He said that Attock would soon have a new building for regional campus of the Allama Iqbal Open University.
