Youth urged to help change people`s perception on terrorism

KARAK: Youths have been urged to play their due role in changing the perception of people on the issue of terrorism, and appreciated the government for establishing a working relationship with the academia to root out the menace effectively.

This was stated by ProVice-Chancellor Khushal Khan Khattak University Prof Mirza Jan while addressing a seminar held at the university here the other day.

The seminar was organised under the aegis of Pakistan peace collective project of ministry of information and broadcasting.

Mr Jan said it was a difficult job to evolve a consensus on the issue, adding, however, that academia would extend full support to the government initiative.

On the occasion, Mohammad Akmal Khan, digital and programme campaigner of the project, said hope and courage needed to be instilled in the terrorism-hit people to help them come out of the prevailing situation.

He asked the students to prepare themselves for an upcoming national competition to be held in Islamabad where documentaries, short films and counter-narratives on terrorism would be produced.

Mr Khan said terrorism could not be thoroughly defeated through gun and stressed the need to change the perception of the people who were unknowingly supporting terrorism in one way or the other.

NAZIM THREATENS TO MOVE COURT: Tehsil Nazim Karak Haji Abdul Wahab has threatened to move court against the district council and local lawmaker for committing contempt of court by advertising projects` tenders in newspapers despite a ban by the Peshawar High Court`s Bannu bench on utilisation of oil and gas royalty and production bonus funds on schemes.

Addressing a press conference here the other day, he said on his petition regarding illegal advertisements in the newspapers for projects, the PHC, Bannu bench had upheld its earlier verdict banning utilisation of such funds in the district.
