MINGORA: The people affected by nood in 2010 in the upper Swat have shifted to their new houses, constructed for them by a Saudi Arabia-based organisation.
The unprecedented nood in 2010 wreaked havoc across Swat valley and washed away thousands of houses, agricultural land, roads and bridges.
However, the Custodians of the Two Holy Mosques Relief Campaign for Pakistan (CTHMRCP), a Saudi organisation, in January 2016 started construction of about 71 houses with 38 houses in Kalam, 24 in Bahrain and nine in Madyan to help the effected people.
The beneficiaries, who shifted to their new houses, said that it was a hard time for them when their houses were washed away and they were left homeless.
`I have no words to pay thanksto our Saudi brethren, who reached to our help and extended us the much needed support. We spent six years in different rented houses,` said Mohammad Khan, a flood victim from Bahrain.
The CTHMRCP also constructed houses for the 2015 earthquake victims at Kalam valley.
`My children are happy after shifting to their new house constructed with the support of Saudi people,` said Mohammad Nawaz, an earthquake survivor from Kalam valley.
The local people said that about 35 water supply schemes were also being executed by the Saudi organisation.
Raja Majid Ali, the site engineer for the projects in Swat, said that CTHMRCP resolved to continue relief and rehabilitation work to improve the living standard of the people of Pakistan under the guidance and supervision of the leadership of Saudi Arabia.
