40 boats dismantled at Saiful Muluk Lake

MANSEHRA: A joint team of wildlife department and district administration dismantled 40 boats sailing in Lake Saiful Muluk despite a ban, here the other day.

The district administration had banned boating in Lake Saiful Muluk last year in a bid to preserve the natural environment of the lake and its suburbs. It had also restricted horse riding near the lake to avoid pollution in the area.

A joint team of wildlife department, police and tehsil administration reached the lake and removed boats from water and then dismantled them.

`We have dismantled boats which were polluting natural environment and water in Lake Saiful Muluk, said assistant commissioner Ali Asghar, while speaking to reporters on Saturday.

He said more than 40 boats were sailing in the lake and polluting water and environment.

Mr Asghar said that all but four boats were sailing without permits, adding that owners were issued notices to remove their boats from the lake, but they failed to do so.

MAN KILLED FOR HONOUR: Two men allegedly shot dead their brother-in-law for honour after their sister had married the victim against the will of the family in Shinkiari area.

Mohammad Aslam, investigation officer of Shinkiari police station, told reporters that the woman, belonging to Nowshera district, had married the victim against the will of her family. He said the couple had been living secretly in Shinkiari area for last many months.

Mr Aslam said the brothers of the woman reached the hiding place of the couple and shot dead their brother-in-law.

He said the woman was taken away by her brothers. The police official said that raids were being conducted in Nowshera and other parts of province to arrest the culprits.

LIQUOR SEIZED: The police on Sunday seized a large quantity of locally made liguor and arrested two accused.

Deputy superintended of police Mohammad Tariq told reporters that a police party on a lead provided by an accused raided a distillery in Thakra area and seized 200 liters of locally made wine.

He said that two suppliers, Mohammad Saleem and Malik Amman, were arrested.

Mr Tariq said the distillery was being run by an ex-union nazim Mohammad Jamshad and police were also carrying out raids to arrest him.

HELP SOUGH`Il A woman, whose husband and son were killed earlier this year, has sought help of inspector general of police in arrest of the killers.

`The Abbottabad police failed to arrest killers of my husband and son and the culprits are threatening me of dire consequences if I pursued the case in court,` said Shamim Akhtar, while speaking at a press conference at the local press club here the other day.
