ISLAMABAD:Awoman hasbeen bookedby the police in response to a complaint lodged by her brother regarding her newborn baby, police said on Tuesday.

The complainant told police that his sister married a man five years ago and moved to his home in Naiabadi Sharifabad. The complainant said his brother-in-law moved to Dubai two to three years ago for work.

Police quoted the complainant as saying that his sister came to his home a few days ago and told the women in the family that she was pregnant. She gave birth to a girl.

The complainant asked the police to investigate the matter, and police said those involved would be punished.

A police official told Dawn on condition of anonymity that the issue `was very serious` and that such matters were always kept a secret, but that this had been brought to the police with a request that it be investigated.

He said the chances of an ulterior motive behind the allegation could not be ruled out.

Police said the case will be investigated from other aspects, including property disputes.

The official said this may be the first such incident reported to Islamabad police.

He said the woman was yet to be arrested but would be once her condition became stable. Shortly after the registration of the case, investigators also approached the FIA to determine the authenticity of the complainant`s claim that the woman`s husband had been in Dubai for the last two to three years. He added that DNA testing would also be conducted.
