LAHORE: Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has opposed the National Accountability Bureau`s plea bargain provision in its ordinance, saying it was a policy of Pervez Musharraf.
`Plea bargain (with suspects) after corruption was a part of national accountability policy of dictator Musharraf but now instead of plea bargain, accountability will be held and each looted penny will be recovered and deposited to the national exchequer. Plea bargain was the hallmark of the Musharraf government and a part of NAB law of Musharraf,` he said and expressed hope that the court would do justice in this regard.
The CM was speaking at the inauguration of the central data centre of the Rural Land Computerisation System and Punjab Land Record Authority at Arfa Karim Software Technology Park on Thursday.
Under the latest system, inheritance rights of the citizens had been protected and matters of land would be resolved through a computerised system, he said.
Shahbaz added the Punjab government had achieved an important milestone by launching the modern system of land record information.
`The land record centres are active in 143 tehsils of the province and services are being provided to the people regarding the matters of land under one roof,` he said, adding the system would eliminate patwari culture.
Matters of ownership deed and mutation of land had become free of corruption and family disputes regarding land had been eliminated, he said.
The CM also held retired Gen Pervez Musharraf responsible for over a decade`s delay in the project.
`The PML-N had laid the foundation of this modern system in 1997 but because of the coup by dictator Musharraf (in 1999) the work on this project was suspended,` he said and added that in the last 70 years both civil and military governments ruined the country.
