Two military court convicts shifted to Adiala jail

RAWALPINDI: Two of the twenty-five civilians who were sentenced by military court to 10 years of “rigorous imprisonment” in connection with the attack on military facility on May 9 were shifted to Adiala jailon Saturday.
According to sources, the two convicts, Raja Mohammad Ehsan son of Raja Mohammad Maqsood and Umar Farooq son of Mohammad Sabir, were sentenced to 10 years each in the GHQ attack case by the military courts were shifted to Adiala jail.
In this first phase of sentencing, the military courts have handed down punishments ranging from two to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment for their involvement in violent attacks on military installations on May 9, a statement issued by the ISPR on Saturday said.
The development comes over a week after the Supreme Court’s constitutional bench conditionally allowedmilitary courts to pronounce the verdicts of 85 under-custody civilians in cases pertaining to the May 9 riots.
“All convicts retain the right to appeal and other legal resources, as guaranteed by the law and the Constitution,”the ISPR said.
It further said that “promulgation of the sentences of remaining accused is also being done and will be announced shortly as and when the due process is complete”.
