PU rusticates six IJT activists

LAHORE: The Punjab University administration on Thursday suspended six activists of the Islami Jamiat Talaba (IJT) involved in violence against three students belonging to the People`s Student Federation (PSF) over an altercation.
The incident occurred on Monday when the PSF students were attacked and injured by IJT activists on the new campus. The injured students were taken to a nearby hospital in a critical condition.
Governor Sardar Saleem Haider Khan visited the injured students and condemned the violence, stating that such incidents were unacceptable in universities.He assured that the chancellor`s office would provide full support to establish a peaceful environment in universities and directed a legal action against those involved in violence.
Vice Chancellor Prof Muhammad Ali Shah told him that the disciplinary committee had initiated action against those involved in the fights, with nine students already expelled in the first phase.
He said cases had been registered against the students involved inthe attack and a strict action would be taken against those disrupting the campus peaceful environment.The VC approved the suspension of six IJT activists involved in the violence against PSF students.
According to a PU spokesperson, the suspended IJT activists included Samiullah from the Department of Social Work, Salar Ahmad from Sociology, Atif Nawaz and Ammar Khan from Law College, and Anees and Mujbata Hussain from IER.
An application was lodged for police action against two former students and IJT activists, Usman Ahmed and Ghazanfar Ali, who had previously been expelled.
The spokesperson also mentioned that IJT activists had attacked Muhammad Mohsin Ali and Muhammad Usman with sticks and stones on Jan 20, 202s, resulting in serious injuries.
An FIR was also registered against these students and further disciplinary action would be taken in accordance with the law.
Meanwhile, IJT spokesperson Arslan Mayo denied the allegations of violence. He accused PPP office bearers of levelling false allegations against the IJT and vowed to continue fighting for students`rights.
