FPW: ethnic rules the look of the day

KARACHI: The revivalist trend of ethnic crafts and embroideries started day two of Fashion Pakistan Week Spring/Summer `17 as successive designers retraced their steps and went back to their roots in search of designinspiration.

Nida Azwer opened the show with Khalarai based on Sindhi embroideries, mirror work, traditional tankas, bead work, rilli craft and panel embroidery on a bed of pastels and earth tones used intelligently and highlighted by flattering cuts and silhouettes.

Baatin by Naushaba Brohi of Inaaya showed some more along the same lines with gharara pants in bursts of burnt orange and blacks. Overall the collection stood out in terms of being edgy and innovative.

Under the British Council mentorship programme for local designers, Fashion DNA features capsule collections by Zuria Dor (Tropical Romanticism), The Pink Tree Company (Jahaan), Jeem (Songs of my Nation), Sonya Battla (Weave Indigo Fusion), Munib Nawaz (Sci Piritual) and Gulabo (Hippie Trail).The Hair Fashion Scout II segment by Toni & Guy featured new modelling aspirants in radical hair fashions by the celebrated stylist under the patronage of Saeeda Mandviwala.

Amir Adnan chose to show a very nofrills, no-thrills everyday wear in basic tones for both sexes. What caught the eye were the vests and smart tops which can be used as separates as well. Interspersed were formals such as sherwanis in selfprints.

At this point the Bank Alfalah Rising Talent winner was announced by FP spokesperson Deepak Perwani and the cash prize worth Rs0.5 million went to Areej Iqbal.

Amato`s romantic gowns in pastels breezed by while Deepak Perwani with Pure focused on the essence of purity found in the morning sky and the waters of the sea.

The blue tones were spruced up with light embellishment, lace and crystals.

The 10 Years of Fashion Pakistan segment featured the sophisticated design aesthetics of established names in fashion such as Bunto Kazmi, Shamaeel Ansari, HSY, Umar Sayeed, Sana Safinaz, Deepak Perwani,NomiAnsari,AmirAdnan,Nilofer Shahid and Maheen Khan.The Hair Fashion Scout II segment by Toni & Guy featured new modelling aspirants in radical hair fashions by the celebrated stylist under the patronage of Saeeda Mandviwala.
