LHC seeks reports on school`s closure

LAHORE: The Lahore High Court (LHC) summoned the city assistant commissioner (AC) on Feb 27 to submit a report on the closure of the Cambridge Madrasatul Banat Higher Secondary School on Lake Road.

Anjuman Madrasatul Banat president Dr Aminul Haq Khan filed a writ petition, citing AC as defendants. Wasig Abbas Haral, secretary of the Higher Education Department, Saira Aziz Mughal, principal of Kuliatul Banat Associate Degree College, the inspector general of police, the Lahore CCPO, and the Mazang station house officer.

He said that on Feb 17, the AC and police invaded the school, broke classroom locks, and damaged furniture. He said the district administration staff and police also misbehaved with teachers and students whowere present there to take their examinations. He said that the district administration removed CCTV cameras and their records.

The petitioner stated that they had filed a complaint with the Mozang Police Station for the filing of a case against the individuals engaged in the February 16 and 17 event.

He stated that a land ownership lawsuit between the institution and the Evacuee Trust Property Board was pending in the Supreme Court, but on the orders of the HED secretary, the district administration and the police took control of the property without giving the petitioner with any legal notice.

He said the district administration had sealed the school illegally.

He pleaded to unseal the school premises, an appropriate direction for the respondents to not interfere in school matters and refrain from causing any kind of harassment.
