PESHAWAR: An aged woman from Nowshera has accused cantonment police station SHO of kidnapping her son and demanding ransom of Rs0.3 million for his release.
Speaking at a news conference at the Peshawar Press Club on Monday, Anbia Bibi said on Jan 27, 2015, SHO Haji Mohammad picked her son, Habib Gul, from his residence and took him to an unknown place instead of the police station.
`The police officer demanded Rs0.3 million rupees from us to release my son, and as my family couldn`t afford such huge amount and we refused to pay it, at which the police implicated her son in a fake criminal case,` maintained the woman.
The police after keeping the young man in custody for five days, registered a case charging him with possessing over four kilograms of hashish and Rs18,000 fake currency, the woman continued.
Ms Bibi said that her son worked as daily wager at a car sales centre, andremained so busy in his worl< that he had no time for other activities.
`We are too poor to make both ends meet and my son cannot think even of smuggling narcotics,` said the woman, adding the SHO had picked up Gul just to extract money from him.
`The police officer`s character is dubious because an FIR has already been registered against him in Nowshera Kalan police station on charges of kidnapping a civilian for ransom,` she said. Similarly, she claimed that the SHO was also involved in embezzlement of his colleagues` salaries in Risalpur police station.
She said that despite several complaints to high ranking police officers no action against the SHO was taken so far. She said in case the government failed to take action against the police officer he would continue to misuse his official powers against innocent citizens.
Anbia Bibi appealed to PTI chairman Imran Khan, Chief Minister Pervez Khattak, IGP Nasir Khan Durrani and Peshawar High Court chief justice to provide her justice.
