TEACHERS` PROTEST: The All Teachers Association, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa chapter, has demanded of the government to enforce time-scale promotion formula in the education department so as to redress the grievances of teachers.

`We have already taken the issue of time-scale promotion of teachers of all cadres with the KP government but nothing positive has been forthcoming in this regard,` Khalid Zaman, ATA pro-vincial vice-president, told media men here on Monday.

He said that teachers had decided to organise a demonstration outside the provincial assembly in Peshawar on Wednesday (March 25) to push for their demands.

He said that a large number of teachers would participate in the protest.

`Because of lack of promotion, 119,000 male and female teachers across the province have been suffering financially,` said Mr Zaman.

He said that the teacher`s fraternity would announce its future line of action at the protest. `All other provinces have been following the time-scale promotion formula except KP which is unjust. The ATA representative demanded that teachers should be given representation in the board of governors of education department and sons of those teachers who died during service be appointed in basic pay scale of 15. `We want immediate restoration of teachers sacked under the so-called rationalization policy of the provincial government,` he demanded.

Mr Zaman said that teachers were opposed to postings and transfers in education department on political basis.

He also demanded promotions purely on merit and seniority.

`PTI-led government talks much about real change and merit but in reality no such change is seen, Mr Zaman lamented.
