Man shot, injured as muggers loot two shops, three individuals

ISLAMABAD: Muggers looted two shops and three individuals, and also shot and injured a stallholder during in the federal capital, police said.

In the first incident, four armed individuals raided a bakery in a bazaar in Sara-i-Kharbooza at around 12:30am.

They held Abdullah and Waqas Ahmed at gunpoint and looted Rs20,000 in cash and two mobile phones before fleeing the scene, police reported.

The same gunmen then intercepted a citizen, Asher Shahzad, on the road, held him at gunpoint, and looted Rs27,000 from him. Shortly afterwards, they intercepted another man, Jhad Ali, and stole his mobile phone.

The police further said the gang stopped another individual, Shoukat Ullah, while he was on his way home. When he resisted, one of the gunmen shot him.

He collapsed on the road, while the suspects escaped with stolen items.

Meanwhile, another bakery in Dhoke Abbasi was raided by the gang. They held the shopkeeper, Mohammad Imran, at gunpoint and looted Rs35,000 in cash and two mobile phones before fleeing.

Speaking to Dawn, Abdullah, the baker at the Sara-iKharbooza bazaar, said six armed men on two motorcycles stormed his bakery located adjacent to the bazaar.

He added the suspects also looted two more people at different spots on their way toward the bazaar.

A police officer told Dawn that the five incidents were carried out by the same gang.

The officer added that an eyewitness had alerted the police at around 12:31am, reporting that armed robbers were looting shops in Dhoke Abbasi and Sara-iKharbooza and that there had also been gunfire.
