ISLAMABAD: A meeting of steering committee on Polyclinic extension project on Monday decided to construct two towers of 600 beds each in the park and in place of the existing building.
In the first phase, the tower in Argentina Park would be completed within 18 months, while in the second phase the current building of Polyclinic will be demolished and the second tower will be constructed there and both of them will be linked through a corridor.
The meeting was chaired by theMinister of State for Capital Administration and Development Division (CADD) Dr Tariq Fazal Chaudhry.
The Executive Director Polyclinic Dr Amjad Mehmood while talking to Dawn said once the tower in the park was completed, equipment and departments of the current building would be shifted there and then the existing building would be demolished.
Earlier during the meeting the CADD minister directed to complete the process of design approval of the building within minimum possible time so that construction work on the projectcouldbe started.
In 2008, it was decided to constructan additional building of Polyclinic on one third of the Argentina Park land which is 2.5 acres.
The then ministry of health contacted Argentinean embassy to get permission for the construction of hospital.
After getting permission from the embassy another problem arose when the Capital Development Authority (CDA) said only the prime minister could give approvalfor the construction of hospital on parl(`s land.
The CDA was of the view that the hospital could only be constructed on park`s land in relaxation of rules.
Last the prime minister referred the matter to the cabinet, which gave go-ahead to the projectlast year.
