`Wind-tossed` city areas face power disruption for hours

LAHORE: Various parts of the city remained without light for 10 to 15 hours after the electricity supply disrupted due to windstorm on Sunday night couldn`t be restored by the respective field formations of the Lahore Electric Supply Company (Lesco) for a long time.

On the other hand, there are also reports about power f ailure in various localities either due to rain or other technical issues.

`The power supply in our area got suspended at about 11pm on Sunday night and resumed at 3pm on Monday. It is surprising,` said Asghar, a resi-dent of Gulberg main boulevard (old Auriga).

He said a Lesco team reached the affected area after the windstorm and started work to restore the supply. But they couldn`t identify the fault while working for many hours. `The team told us that they were unable to find fault. And after working for many hours, they finally succeeded in rectifying the fault and restoring the supply,` he added.

He said on Monday, an electricity f ault occurred in an adjacent plaza (25-E), causing a blast in the transformer installed there. This fault also affected supply in our area, as the four transformers installed there stopped working.

Talking to Dawn, Shehryar, aresident of a locality (Askari-5) near Kalma Chowk, said the electricity in their colony suspended at about 11pm on Sunday night and resumed at 1pm on Monday. `When we tried to contact the respective Lesco ofhce in the area, no one attended the calls,` he complained.

According to one Imran, a resident of OPF housing scheme (Khayaban-i-Jinnah, near Wapda Town), the faults occurred in the system also affected power supply in his locality. `From 6.30pm to 9.15pm, there was no light in the area. Moreover, no one attended our calls when we contacted the respective Lesco sub-divisional office,` he deplored.
