Man, son killed on way to court

GUJRAT: A man and his son were gunned down on their way to attend a court hearing near Lalamusa city early on Tuesday.

Police said an old enmity was the motive behind the incident as investigation was under way.

Reports said 55-yearold Nawaz Gujjar and his son Azhar Iqbal (22) of Gajju Bhalot village were going to Kharian to attend a court hearing in a car. When they reached Dhama road, some armed men arrived there on a car and a motorbike.

The assailants sprayed the car with a volley of bullets, leaving them dead on the spot.

The suspects fled the scene soon after the incident while police reached the spot and shifted the bodies to Kharian Tehsil headquarters hospital where doctors later conducted autopsy and handed thebodies over to heirs.

A team of Punjab Forensic Science Agency (PFSA) collected evidence from the crime scene.

Lalamusa city police have registered a case against seven nominated and two unidentified suspects on the report of Aqsa Bibi, the daughter of deceased Nawaz, and started investigation.

Meanwhile, Gujrat police claimed to have arrested the suspect involved in the murder of his brother in Cheema colony in Saddar Jalalpur Jattan area.

Saddar Gujrat circle DSP Malik Adnan said suspect Haider Ali had shot dead his brother over a domestic dispute a few days ago and fled the scene.

However, Saddar Jalalpur Jattan Station House Officer Inspector Rana Amir Saeed traced and arrested the suspect and also Orecovered the weapon used in the incident.

Further investigation is under way.
