LAHORE: The Punjab government has appointed Lahore DIG Security Kamran Adil as the new DIG investigation, Lahore.

Mr Adil was holding the additional charge of the post of DIG Investigation after Sohail Sukhera proceeded on three-month official leave allegedly due to his differences with Lahore Capital City Police Officer Bilal Siddique Kamyana.

The Punjab government made Mr Sukhera officer on special duty (OSD) on Tuesday and replaced him with Mr Adil.

An official said Mr Adil was try-ing to clinch the post of the DIG Investigation since he was given additional charge of the slot. He said SSP Imran Kishwar was also the other BPS-19 police officer who was being tipped as most favourite for the said slot due to the support of the capital city police officer (CCPO).

The official said the CCPO was assigning him (Kishwar) multiple important and sensitive tasks in the wake of the PTPs demonstrations and the investigation into the high profile cases lodged after May 9 riot s.

There were reports in the Central Police Office that Mr Kishwar would be posted as newhead of the investigation wing of the Lahore police as he was also holding meetings with the investigation wing officers. However, Mr Adil made a surprise entry and got the post.

About Sohail Sukhera, the source alleged that he was punished for refusing to work with CCPO Bilal Siddique Kamyana during his posting as DIG investigation. He said the Punjab IG had not appointed the regular DIG investigation for many weeks, giving an opportunity to Mr Sukhera to cut short his official leaves and resume his assignment. However, he allegedly refused to work with the CCPO.
