[Meanwhile, according to Dawn`s staff correspondent in Karachi,] Qazi Nazrul Islam`s contribution to literature and the part played by him in the fight for independence were eulogised by Dr Mahmud Husain, Pakistan`s Deputy Minister, speaking at the fifty-second birthday celebrations of the rebel-poet ... in Karachi.

... The rebel-poet was not the enemy of religion, as may appear from some of his works, but was the enemy of those people who exploit the masses in the name of religion, he said. He added that Nazrul Islam was responsible for spreading the message of freedom in undivided Bengal.
