Sikh pilgrims visit Faroogabad temple

SHEIKHUPURA: More than 300 Sikh pilgrims visited the Sacha Sauda Temple near Faroogabad, some 18km away from here, to perform their spiritual rites on Tuesday.

Evacuee Trust Property Board Deputy Secretary Faraz Abbas and other district of ficials welcomed the visitors.

Talking to the media, Sardar Raam Pal Singh, the leader of the pilgrims, expressed satisfaction with the arrangements made for them and thanked the authorities for maintaining Sikh worship places and extending their hospitality.

Mr Singh demanded governments of India and Pakistan relax visa terms and conditions so that the people from both sides of the border could visit easily.

After performing the religious rites pilgrims returned to Nankana Sahib.

THREE DIE: Three passengers were killed while 18 others sustained injuries when their van hit a trailer near Khori on the GT Road.

The van was on its way to Gujranwala from Lahore when it hit the trailer in a bid to overtake it. As a result, Taimoor, 7, Waqar, 30, and Faisal, 40, died on the spot. Eighteen injured people were taken to Muridke and Lahore hospitals. Six of them are in a critical condition.

ARRESTED: Additional District Collector (ADC) Saira Umer said 42 shopkeepers, including 10 butchers, have been arrested while Rs210,000 fine was also imposed on them for price hike, hiding price lists and selling unhygienic meat.

In a press briefing, she said the operation would continue against hoarders and profiteers to maintain during Ramazan.
