Govt plans IPH revamp

LAHORE: An integrated disease preventive and response system will be established in Punjab along with restructuring of Institute of Public Health (IPH), Lahore.
For this purpose, the Public Health England will extend cooperation to the Specialised Healthcare and Medical Education Department, Punjab.
It was decided at a technical workshop held at a local hotel on Thursday to evaluate and recommend way forward for the restructuring of IPH.
Besides experts from the Public Health England, Planning & Development Department Chairman Jehanzeb Khan, Specialised Healthcare & Medical Education Secretary Najam Ahmed Shah, Special Secretary Dr. Sajid Chauhan, Institute of Public Health Dena Prof Muaz Ahmed also attended the workshop.
According to a handout, a detailed discussion was held at the workshop. The participants presented their recommendations for strengthening of the IPH, promotion of research work, integration of different institutions working on disease prevention and expansion of scope of the institute.
The participants made a thorough discussion in groups and later each group shared its recommendations/proposals for restructuring of IPH.
On this occasion, Najam Shah said the response system would be set up in Punjab. `Moreover, IPH is being restructured to enhance the research worl< and prevention of epidemics and other diseases.
For this purpose Public Health England is extending technical and financial assistance to the Punjab government.
