KARACHI: ChaudhriNazir Ahmad,Minister for Industries, told the Executive Committee of the Council of Industries at its meeting yesterday [June 23] that he was not satisfied with the pace of industrial development in the country. He would not call it slow but said: `We might have done better.` He urged the Committee to ponder over the `root causes` which were retarding industrial development. The Committee was appointed in September last by the Council to supervise and co-ordinate the work of Departmental Advisory Committees and review from time to time the [Council`s recommendations].
[Mr] Ahmad, inaugurating the first meeting ... announced that the Government were considering a proposal to make the Council a statutory body by an Act of Parliament. He said the Government were firm in their policy of taking industrialists into their confidence... .
