Cultural camp` for children concludes

BAHAWALPUR: A five-day `cultural camp` for children organised by the Bahawalpur Arts Council (BAC) concluded here on Tuesday.
The camp, according to BAC Resident Director Syed Abid Rizvi, meant for the children aged up to 14 years was aimed at providing them an opportunity of recreation during the summer vacation and to acquaint them with their culture, civilisation, customs, hobbies and the games the children used to play at home.
The event offered various recreational activities to the children, including playing the guitar, the piano, doll-making, puppet show and puppet making, Naat recitation, Yoga, indoor games. The children were also informed about the importance of tree plantation.
The participants, including children coming from various local schools, were also taughtpainting on papers and cloth and clay pottery by the experts and craftsmen.
Mr Rizvi said that Ibrahim, a craftsman from Ahmedpur East was invited to the event to train children in clay pottery.
Similarly, he said, a singer, Shahid Ali Khan, sang songs for the children, who also later performed under his guidance, while prominent craftsman Nasir Mehmood taught them painting on cloth with the help of stencils.
Noted calligraphist taught calligraphy to the participants.
The participants of the camp, inaugurated by Development Director Ms Naushean Malik, were also taken to a nearby nursery to acquaint them with the government`s campaign for a green Pakistan and were given an opportunity to plant saplings.
The parents were also invited on the event`s last day that concluded with distribution of prizes among the participants and their instructors by Punjab food minister Samiullah Chaudhry.
