`Inflated` bill issue Two booked for attacking Mepco team

BAHAWALNAGAR: Two consumers of the Multan Electric Power Company (Mepco) allegedly attacked a recovery team with an axe and firearms when the officials tried to sever their connection for not paying their current`inflated`bill in Faqirwali sub-division.

Mepco sources told Dawn that two brothers, Mansoor and Anwar, residents of Chak 172/7-R, Khichiwala, received their electricity bill of Rs41,000 for the month of July. They decided not to pay it as the bill was double compared to their last month`s bill.

Meanwhile, on Aug 21, when the Mepco team, including Nasir, Tariq and Abdul Rahman, tried to disconnect their meter, both the brothers attacked the team with an axe and also opened fire on it.They allegedly issued threats to the recovery team if it entered the village to disconnect their connection again.

Khichiwala police registered a case against both men on the complaint of Faqirwali SDO sub-divisionWajeehuddin Khan on Aug 22.

BOOKED: A seminary teacher was booked for beating up his minor student in Minchinabad.

The FIR registered with Minchinabad police said Qari Tariq of Basti Qadirpur badly injured 10-year-old Rizwan with a club on Aug 21.

On hearing the boy`s hue and cry, passers-by rescued the child. It went on to say that notables of the area tried to put the matter under the carpet, asking the family not to take action against the Qari.

Police registered a case against the suspect on Friday.
