FAISALABAD: Lawyers of the District Bar Association on Tuesday continued their strike to protest demolition of the walls of a marriage hall owned by former bar secretary Rana Ali Abbas.
Faisalabad DBA Vice-President Abid Maqbool said a court had ordered registration of a case against some district administration officials but lawyers had not given the order to the police as `we want solution of the case without creating any problem in the city.
He said the lawyers would continue their protest on Wednesday (today) and announce the future course of action at the executive committee meeting.
Rana Abbas told Dawn that he had paid the commercialisation feein 2013 to the TMA and the High Level Design Committee (HLDC) had nothing to do with his marriage hall. He said the committee dealt with the buildings on main roads but his hall was away from it.
He said the boundary walls of his property had been demolished under the command of Assistant Commissioner (Saddar) Malik Mushtaq although the area fell in the jurisdiction of the AC (city).
DCO Noorul Amin Mengal said the government had taken serious notice of illegal constructions, violation of bylaws and unchecked commercial activity and constituted the HLDC in each district, headed by the DCO. He said the committee would monitor all commercial activities in the district, notifying important roads.
He said every building to be constructed would require clearance of the HLDC which would ensure that the building bylaws were implemented by TMAs, the FDA and housing department, he added.
Similarly, he said, the District Planning and Design Committee (DPDC) headed by the commissioner would check whether the land under consideration was suitable for the required purpose or not. He said it would convert the plot into required use after detailed scrutiny.
All permissible uses including institutes for education and health, marriage halls, godowns, petrol and CNG pumps, theatres and cinemas required conversion through the DPDC, he said. Staff Correspondent
