Karak miners protest unchecked price hike

KARAK: The mineworkers took out a rally here on Saturday against the unchecked increase in the prices of f ood item s.

The participants of the rally led by labour union leaders, including district president Malik Naveed Khattak and general secretary Ali Khan, marched in Nari Panos area and later held a meeting.

While addressing the meeting, the speakers said the government had failed to arrest the ever increasing price hike.

They lamented that Pakistan was an agricultural country but its people were facing the worst hike in prices of food items.

They claimed the prices of onion, tomatoes and other vegetables were out of reach of common man.

The workers` leaders said the low-paid employees and workers of industries and mines were unable to make both ends meet in the current circumstances.

The speakers said the government had no mechanismto check profiteering and hoarding, and demanded of the government to give a special relief package for the labour class.

They regretted that benefits of reduction in prices of oil products could not be passe d onto the poor m asses.

They said the exploitative capitalists had made the country hostage byincreasing prices of daily use commodities on their own.

The speakers cautioned that if the government failed to take corrective measures for controlling the price hike then the people would be left with no option but to take to the streets.

The participants passed a resolution, demanding of the district administration to make surprise raids in markets and punish the prohteers andhoarders.

BOY DROWNS: A young boy drowned in a pond in Kurd Sharif on Saturday.
