US envoy calls on Nawaz, Maryam

LAHORE: US Ambassador to Pakistan Donald Blome called on PML-N President Nawaz Sharif and Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz here on Monday.

Matters of mutual interest, the promotion of Pakistan-US relations, and cooperation in various fields were discussed in the meeting.

Enhancing investment opportunities, keeping in view future requirements, along with exploring ways to further improve relations between the people of the two countries, were also discussed.

Speaking on the occasion, the chiefminister said: `Pakistan and America have excellent cordial relations, and we are determined to further strengthen them. There is immense potential in Pakistan-US trade, which needs to be utilised. The government has made remarkable achievements in several sectors in a short span of time. Pakistan is more secure and peaceful compared to the past.

She said the PML-N government had set new standards of `good governance` and transparency. Pakistan has achieved great success in the war against terrorism and extremism, she said.

Mr Blome discussed increasing trade opportunities for both countries.

The government handout did not men-tion any discussion between Nawaz Sharif and the US ambassador.

US Consul General Kristin Hawkins and Special Assistant to the Chief Minister Rashid Nasrullah were also present at the meeting.

Also, the chief minister attended the 75th National Day of the People`s Republic of China.

She met Chinese Consul General in Lahore Zhao Shiren and congratulated him on China`s National Day.

`The bond of Pakistan-China friendship is not based on mere strategic interests, as it is a relationship of heart and soul. Pakistan-China relations are based on mutual respect, trust, and unwavering commitment to each other`s prosper-ity,` Ms Nawaz said.

She said the CPEC was not just a project but a symbol of hope, development, and prosperity for the two nations.

`China is taking significant steps to achieve economic development through the Belt and Road Initiative. CPEC is changing the economic landscape of Pakistan.

Zhao Shiren chanted the slogan `Long Live Pak-China Friendship`.

`This is not my day, rather our day.

The participation of guests in the ceremony is proof of the strength of PakistanChina relations,` he said.

Chinese artists performed traditional Chinese cultural art.
