THIS is apropos the article `Rice market distortions` (Nov 9). The writer has mentioned that Iran had put a ban on rice exports which had badly affected our rice exports.
Let me mention here that Iran is not the only country in the world which is buying rice. At present Iraq has floated a tender for 30,000 metric tonnes of rice.
Their total demand is 600,000 mt, which it is buying in installments. But, unfortunately, Pakistan is not included in the suppliers` list. India is there.
I have written to the Rice Exporters Association of Pakistan (REAP) chairman about this but there has been no response.
I have sent a letter to the prime minister also and have been waiting for his response. If we keep sitting like this, rest assured, business will not come itself to Pakistan.
