ISLAMABAD: The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) approved on Wednesday filing of three new corruption references, three investigations and six inquiries related to scams of billions of rupees.
The approval was given at a meeting of NAB`s Executive Board presided over by the bureau`s Chairman Qamar Zaman Chaudhry.
It also decided to close down four inquiries initiated against former chief minister ofKhyber Pakhtunkhwa and sitting MNA Ameer Haider Khan Hoti; the owner of a private firm, Khayal Zaman Mazar Khan; an MNA from Hangu; and an investigation against Arif Allaudin, chief executive officer of the Alternative Energy Development Board, because of lack of incriminating evidence.
According to a spokesman, a corruption reference was approved against TahirBasharat Cheema and others for misuse of authority for making 437 illegal appointments in BS-1 to BS-16 in the Gujranwala Electric Power Company.
A reference against Mian Masood Akhtar, former superintending engineer of the Pak Public Works Department, and others for misuse of authority in road construction projects was approved.
The third reference was against GoharUllah, director of Fateh Textile Mills, Hyderabad, for illegal extraction of coal and its sale that caused Rs2.24 billion loss to the national exchequer.
The board authorised an investigation against officials of the Federal Employees Benevolent and Group Insurance Fund for misusing their authority in making illegal investment that caused a Rs1.33bn loss.
