Killing of trader sparks protest

PESHAWAR: The local traders on Monday blocked G.T. Road for several hours to protest the killing of known fruit merchant Kabul Sher Khan.

The protesting traders demanded early arrest of his killers.The shopkeepers and fruit merchants closed their business outlets for the entire day to protest killing of the trader.

The traffic remained suspended for about three hours on G.T. Road. The traffic flow on the link roads in different areas of Peshawar was also affected by closure of G.T. Road.

The commuters were seen walking on foot towards their destinations.

The protesters were led by Khurshid Khan Mohmand, who told journalists that government failed to control lawlessness in the provincial metropolis. He said that incidents of kidnapping for ransom, extortion and targeted killing were common in the city but police were unable to arrest any of the culprits. He said that they would continue their protest if government failed to arrest the killers of the deceased trader.
