Peshawar tragedy: heads must roll

2014-12-24
T ERRORISTS have been attacking our assets and killing innocent people for quite some time. These have been more deadly with the passage of time. Latest being the horriñckillings ofstudents and teachers at the Army Public School , Peshawar, on Dec 16. The whole nation and people all over the world have been in utter grief.

Convicted terrorists, at last, are now being sent to the gallows, and the government and political parties are joining hands to work out anti-terrorist policies and measures.

But nobody seems to consider why gruesome murder on Dec 16 took place unnoticed by intelligence gathering and sharing agencies. It`s a total failure and criminal neglect by the departments concerned. There are definitely fault lines in both the provincial and federal interior ministries. Crime and punishment must go hand in hand. Surprisingly, not a single official in the department has been charge-sheeted or a fast track inquiry has been ordered. Head must roll.

The buck stops atbothprovincialand federal interior ministries. Competent and qualified people should head such sensitive departments/ministries.
