500 FC men to guard schools

ISLAMABAD: About 500 personnel of the Frontier Constabulary (FC) are arriving in Islamabad for the security of educational institutions in the city.

Talking to mediapersons on Tuesday, Inspector General of Police (IGP) Tahir Alam Khan said the demand for the FC personnel was made by the police due to the shortage of manpower. He said the FC personnel started arriving in the capital on Tuesday. The IGP stated this after inaugurating a model reporting room at the Secretariat police station.

He said there were 423 government and over 600 private schools in the city.

He said 20 well-educated police officers of inspector ranks had been given the task to brief students on howto boost their morale and deal with an emergency situation.

He said the police had devised a strategy to improve the security of the schools through the cooperation of their respective administrations and. He said the Islamabad police would also impart special training to the staff of the institutions.

The station house officers have also been directed to establish checkpoints on the roads leading towards the educational institutes.

Mr Khan said security in Islamabad had also been enhanced and search operations were being conducted to arrest suspected elements.

Earlier, he said the objective of establishing the model reporting room was to enhance the liaison between the police and the community.
